Biography

Dr. Bhupal P. Bhetwal, MS, PhD, is an assistant professor of physiology at MUCOM. He joined Marian University as a founding faculty to teach and train the inaugural class of Master’s in Biomedical Sciences (BMS) in 2016. His current teaching engagement is mostly in the Physiology portion of the medical school curriculum (DO program). He earned masters of science in human physiology from B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal. He earned his Ph.D. in Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology from the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM), Reno (2007-12) in Dr. Brian A. Perrino's laboratory. After his Ph.D., Dr. Bhetwal pursued his first post-doctoral research training with Dr. Wei Yan and Dr. Kenton M. Sanders in Reno (2012-14) and second post-doctoral research training with Dr. Susan J. Gunst at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis (2014-16).

Dr. Bhetwal enjoys teaching with clinical applications of the Biochemical/Physiological concepts. He also enjoys writing integrated pathophysiology cases in collaboration with Dr. Thad Wilson (a professor of Physiology and author of a textbook of Physiology, Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews of Physiology).

Dr. Bhetwal's current research interests are in actin-myosin mechanisms in cell/tissue contractility, cell migration, cell division, cell viability etc. Dr. Bhetwal is a member of the American Physiological Society, American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, and American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
